Changelog
Version 1.0.0Latest
Thirteen languages, optional first-run setup, flexible notifications, and a safe CLI.
Added
- Kazakh, Uzbek and Turkish across the app and widgets: thirteen languages.
- Optional first-run setup with provider choices. Skip it or reopen it in Settings. Existing installations keep their preferences and do not show setup automatically; no provider reads begin until first-run setup is finished or skipped.
- Per-provider notification thresholds, independent reset alerts and quiet hours in this Mac’s time zone. Quiet alerts are skipped, not queued. Stale and expired readings do not trigger low-limit alerts.
- Optional CLI: usagenow status and usagenow status --json read the app’s safe snapshot, with freshness and reset times. No provider runtime, network, authentication or history export. Install from Settings › General; shell configuration is left to the user.
Changed
- Updated JetBrains AI and Perplexity logos, with light and dark appearance support.
Fixed
- Refresh after wake, notification migration and snapshot compatibility checks. CLI output clears percentages after reported resets, preserves unknown values and rejects unsupported snapshot versions.
Version 0.9.0
Personal widgets, quota pace, Dutch, and experimental JetBrains AI.
Added
- JetBrains AI (experimental). Local AI Assistant quota from a JetBrains IDE: monthly tariff remaining and a reported refill date, with menu-bar and widget support. A newer quota event from the same IDE can replace its XML cache; old readings keep their original time. No JetBrains credentials or network requests. Live validation with an active AI Assistant subscription is still pending.
- Personal widgets. Choose providers and accounts independently for each widget, or leave the selection empty to follow UsageNow. Renaming an account keeps the selection; a removed account never silently switches to another.
- Large widget. Up to four detailed provider/account rows, with two quota windows and their reset times. Like the smaller widgets, it only renders the sanitized snapshot.
- Quota pace. A local chart and a clearly labelled estimate for the most critical window, based on at least three fresh quota observations spanning 15 minutes. Cached repeats, stale readings, long gaps, resets and unknown window lengths do not produce a forecast. Estimates never use token counts.
- Optional service incidents. Public OpenAI, Claude, Cursor and GitHub Copilot status checks, off by default and cached for ten minutes. Service status is separate from account connections and usage limits; no usage or account data is sent.
- Dutch (Nederlands). App, widgets and bundled release notes, bringing UsageNow to ten languages.
- Refreshed Windsurf and ElevenLabs icons. Proper provider artwork with light and dark appearance support.
- Antigravity without the IDE. If the IDE cannot answer, read the official agy /usage report from compatible CLI 1.x versions (1.1.11 or later). No agent turn, no credential access by UsageNow; reports are cached for five minutes. Verified with CLI 1.2.2.
Version 0.8.0
Six new providers, more reliable widgets, and nine languages.
Added
- Windsurf limits from its local cached plan; Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Perplexity, ElevenLabs, and Z.ai through explicit connections. ElevenLabs uses its official API; the other four connected services are experimental.
- Sign in to Cursor or Perplexity in an isolated temporary window, or add a session cookie manually. No existing browser profiles are imported.
- Check and Save verifies keys, tokens, and sessions before saving. Rate-limit cooldowns are respected by both automatic and manual refresh.
- Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Hebrew, bringing the app to nine languages. What’s New is translated and works offline.
- Choose an added account for the menu bar. Account credits and characters stay separate from today’s local activity.
Fixed
- Widgets track freshness per provider, save new reading times even when values stay the same, and keep countdowns ticking. Old percentages become unknown after a quota reset.
Version 0.7.2
Every Settings tab opens in every language.
Fixed
- Privacy and About couldn’t be opened in Russian, French, or Spanish: their tab titles didn’t fit the Settings window. Settings now widens to fit.
Version 0.7.1
Choose the app's language, and rename accounts.
Added
- Choose UsageNow’s language in Settings › General › Language: follow macOS, or pick German, English, Spanish, French, or Russian. The widget follows too.
- Rename an added account from its … menu in Settings › Providers.
Changed
- An added account’s actions share one menu, so its row fits in every language.
- An empty or missing account folder says so, instead of asking you to sign in.
Fixed
- Adding an account made the other added accounts read their month of sessions again.
Version 0.7.0
Several accounts, Qwen Code, Cline, Grok Build, and four new languages.
Added
- More than one account: a second Codex or Claude Code folder, or another API key for DeepSeek, Kimi, OpenRouter, or Ollama Cloud, each with its own section — “Codex · Work” — under a name you choose. UsageNow never reads an account’s own name or email.
- Qwen Code — today’s tokens, requests, and models, and what they would have cost, from the session recordings Qwen Code writes on your Mac.
- Cline — today’s tokens, API requests, and models, with the cost Cline recorded, from your editor’s Cline tasks and the Cline CLI. Prompts, replies, and keys are never read.
- Grok Build — today’s tokens, model calls, and models, with the cost xAI reported, from Grok Build’s session logs.
- The last two weeks in the widget, for providers without limits — the shape of your activity, never amounts.
- UsageNow in German, Spanish, French, and Russian, following your Mac’s language.
- What’s New in Settings › About: every version’s changes, inside the app.
Changed
- For Cline and Grok Build, the cost shown is the one the tool recorded, not an estimate.
Version 0.6.1
Notifications about limits, and a keyboard shortcut.
Added
- Notifications about limits: when a limit is down to 20% and again at 5%, once each, and when a limit you were warned about resets. Off by default; turn them on in Settings › Notifications.
- A keyboard shortcut of your own to open UsageNow from any app. Record it in Settings › Menu Bar. No extra permissions needed.
Changed
- The cost estimate knows Claude Sonnet 5.5 and GPT-6.1.
Fixed
- “Try Again”, a newly added API key, or a provider just turned on could be ignored when pressed during a refresh.
- Antigravity no longer holds up other providers while UsageNow looks for its language server.
- A very long line in a session file is skipped without being loaded into memory.
Version 0.6.0
The last 30 days, OpenCode, Qoder, and Ollama Cloud.
Added
- The last 30 days under each provider: a bar per day, with the month’s tokens, estimated cost, and most used model. Hover a bar to see that day. Turn the charts off in Settings › General.
- OpenCode — today’s tokens, requests, and models, and what they would have cost, from OpenCode’s local database, read-only. Prompts and replies are never read.
- Qoder — credits spent today and the answers they paid for, from the transcripts Qoder writes on your Mac. Qoder’s sign-in is never opened.
- Ollama Cloud (experimental) — session and weekly limits, with your own Cloud API key.
- Show limits as Remaining or Used, in the popover, the menu bar, and the widget.
- Credits in the widget for Kiro, Warp, and Qoder.
- Report a Problem in Settings › About: see the whole report first, then send it as a GitHub issue or an email yourself. No names, paths, keys, or prompts.
Changed
- The menu bar window is more opaque, and scrolls instead of running off a small screen.
- Settings › Providers fits a laptop screen.
- The cost estimate knows the newest models, including Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6.
- Reading a month of session files is several times faster and uses far less memory.
Fixed
- Codex limits stopped updating with ChatGPT 26.9, which moved its bundled Codex CLI.
- Stale Claude limits now say how to refresh them, so an hour-old percentage isn’t read as current.
- The widget reads data from a newer app instead of asking you to open UsageNow.
- UsageNow could quit without a word if the Codex app-server exited early.
Version 0.5.0
Kiro, Warp, and DeepSeek, Kimi, and OpenRouter with your own API key.
Added
- Kiro — your plan’s monthly credit limit, when it resets, and today’s credits and prompts, from what Kiro writes on your Mac. No request to Kiro, no Kiro credential.
- Warp — today’s agent requests, credits, and tokens per model, from Warp’s local database, read-only.
- DeepSeek, Kimi, and OpenRouter — balances and spending from their official APIs, with your own API key. The key stays in your Keychain and goes only to that provider. None of the three is verified against a live account yet.
Version 0.4.0
What today’s tokens would cost, and updates in the app.
Added
- What today’s tokens would cost: an estimate beside each provider’s totals, at published API prices, with cached tokens priced as cached. A sense of scale, not a bill — a subscription doesn’t charge per token.
- Updates in the app. UsageNow checks for and installs its own updates, and only ones carrying its signature. Checking sends nothing about you. Coming from 0.3.0, install 0.4.0 by hand once.
Changed
- Refresh draws an arc of progress around the arrow instead of spinning the icon.
- The menu bar percentage is sized to the icons beside it.
Version 0.3.0
Antigravity and Gemini CLI, activity by model, and Team plans.
Added
- Antigravity — 5-hour and weekly limits for each model group, and your plan, read from the Antigravity app while it runs. No credentials, nothing beyond 127.0.0.1.
- Gemini CLI — tokens, requests, and models from its local session recordings. It reports no usage limits, so none are shown.
- Activity by model: a “Models today” list for Codex, Claude Code, and Gemini CLI, most active first.
- Team plans: Claude shows the seat, such as Team · Premium; Codex shows Team, Business, and Enterprise.
- Antigravity and Gemini CLI menu bar modes.
- Reorder providers by dragging them in Settings; the popover and widget follow.
- Cursor and GitHub Copilot are listed as coming soon.
Changed
- With three or more providers, the medium widget shows one row each and the small widget lists up to three — the ones closest to a limit first.
- A provider added in an update starts on once. Providers you turned off stay off.
Fixed
- Claude usage limits no longer prompt for your login password, and come back on their own after you run Claude Code.
- A Claude limit window that reset while you were away stays visible instead of disappearing, and limits you hit show up without any sign-in.
- The last known Claude limits survive quitting or updating the app.
Version 0.2.0
Real provider data and desktop widgets.
Added
- Real data: Codex limits, reset times, and plan from the official Codex app-server; tokens, requests, and the latest model for Codex and Claude Code from local session files.
- Desktop widgets in small and medium sizes.
- Claude Code usage limits — experimental and off by default.
- Codex and Claude Code can each be turned on or off.
- Menu bar modes: icon only, the most critical usage, or one provider.
- Light, Dark, or System appearance.
Changed
- Usage reads as what’s left — “58% left” — and bars shrink as you use more.
- Limit windows appear exactly as a provider reports them; a missing one is never invented.
- When limits can’t be read, the last known values stay for a day, marked as stale, with a one-line reason.
Version 0.1.0
The first menu bar app.
Added
- The native menu bar app, its settings, and its states, running on sample data.
